A closer look: Epic: Holiday Homepage Improvements

Since 2023, I’ve been focused on reporting to celebrate our devs and Online Creative Product Support (OCPS) Team. In Feb 2024, I built a public page to demo our releases. This is paired with a weekly[ish] ICYMI: In Case You Missed It email with release notes and any information people working in our systems need to know. since November 2023, the OCPS team has grown from one (me) to five people who troubleshoot, solve problems and write feature requests for over 100 users.

Currently, I work with multiple product teams (including home page & app) to design, test, and deliver the best possible CMS and essential tools for our internal creative users. I lead home page design, but in a new way, working with the developers, UX, & operations teams to increase efficiency for the internal users & speed to market for the customers. After becoming a SME in the CMS, I also regularly train and mentor users as well as help to write operations initiatives and documentation based on my extensive knowledge. I lead cross-functional blameless post-mortems when something goes wrong, and use that feed back to continuously improve the products I help to manage.

Sometimes one of my biggest challenges is explaining to coworkers and leadership what I do to bring value to the company. Creatives can have a hard time wrapping their heads around what product does. They know I help them, but they may not understand everything that goes into it. Because of my background in creative, I’ve become an expert at translating creative into nerd, and nerd into creative. Creative has stakeholders from marketing, but for many internal products I work on, Creative is the stakeholder.
My Home Depot Journey
I’ve been at the Home Depot since 2014. I started off doing credit, then how-to infographics, and eventually leaned into home page, where with my team, I designed and built over 150 pages per year. I also did special projects including College GameDay, storm preparedness & cleanup pages, infographics, app education, design & build and even apron design.
